Hunger Family
Listen to curator's interpretation
Curatorial notes
Editor: This poster, titled *Familie Hunger* by Martin Kippenberger, looks like an announcement for an exhibition. The bold, almost garish, colors and seemingly disparate images create a rather unsettling feeling. What do you see in this piece? Curator: Kippenberger often used his art to critique societal structures. The title, translating to "Hunger Family," juxtaposed with the imagery of wealth and vulnerable figures, could be a commentary on economic disparity and the societal hunger for success and recognition. What do you think? Editor: I see that, especially with the artist sitting amongst mannequin-like sculptures. It's like he's displaying himself, a commodity amongst others. Curator: Exactly. Kippenberger challenges us to question our roles within these power dynamics and reflect on the commodification of art and the artist. Editor: I didn't initially see those layers of meaning. Thanks for helping me look deeper!
