Koshiro Onchi made this print, "Form No.3: Uprise of Blue," with a kind of playful seriousness, using shapes and colors that feel both composed and totally free. It’s like he’s saying, “Let’s see what happens if…” The blues are the thing, right? Soft, washy, and then, bam, those deep, dark dots. The background feels like it’s breathing, a light blue wash that creates this whole atmosphere. And then you've got that strong black line slicing through the oval shape. It's kind of jarring, but it pulls the whole thing together, giving it an edge. I keep thinking about Matisse’s cut-outs when I look at this. There's a similar sense of joy in the simplicity and the way Onchi lets the materials speak. Art isn't about perfection; it's about the ongoing conversation, the questions, and the sheer pleasure of making.
