Editor: This abstract piece is titled "Banhos turcos" - or "Turkish Baths" - painted with acrylic by Julio Pomar. It's quite striking! The juxtaposition of geometric and organic forms is really interesting. I am curious to know what grabs you when you look at it? Curator: Well, first of all, isn’t the title mischievous? “Turkish Baths…” and yet, where’s the steam? Where are the languid figures we might expect? Instead, we're plunged into a sea of cerulean blue populated by these peculiar shapes. Almost playful, but with an undercurrent of… what would you call it? Perhaps a submerged sensuality? I feel that the absence of clear figures almost enhances the experience. It feels like we're seeing the echoes or remnants of a bath, a memory maybe. Do you agree? Editor: I do see that now! That makes it feel more like a feeling of "Turkish Baths", instead of a depiction. A very good echo from a memory as you called it! Do you see how this ties in with the Modernist movement it’s categorized in? Curator: Precisely! The way Pomar plays with abstraction echoes a modernist fascination with simplifying forms to reveal underlying emotions and ideas. Think about it - stripping away detail to arrive at the core essence of the bath experience. Also, it's very bold! This isn’t about the accurate rendition; it’s about capturing an emotion. Modernism at its best, perhaps. A reinvention. I wonder, does this maybe makes you curious as to what were his other sources of inspiration? Editor: It absolutely does! I see now the interplay between a tangible location, and the feelings we might derive from it. Thanks for clarifying its nuances and for guiding me through it. Curator: It’s been a delightful voyage, and hopefully our listeners had their curiosity piqued by this artwork.
