This “Saddle Horse,” was made by the A.C. Williams Company, but its date is unknown, so we can't know exactly when the artists engaged with the material in the studio. Still, you can see it's all about process! The horse is cast in metal, it's not trying to be photorealistic. What really grabs me is the surface - like a lunar landscape. It’s so tactile and seems to invite touch, even though it's behind glass here. The silver paint isn't smooth or perfect; instead, it’s got this gritty texture that catches the light and shadows. The way the paint pools and gathers in the horse's contours accentuates the form. And that little coin slot on its back! So charmingly functional, it merges art with daily life. To me it recalls Degas' bronzes, or even Duchamp's readymades, in how it elevates an everyday object. Ultimately, it’s the kind of piece that reminds you art is everywhere, in the most unexpected places, isn't it?
