This is Gerrit Willem Dijsselhof's sketchbook page, "Patterns with Lines and Loops," made with graphite on lined paper. It's like a visual playground of geometric possibilities. Dijsselhof’s lines are tentative, searching. There is a looseness and freedom that comes from working on paper that invites experimentation. The graphite allows for easy corrections and adjustments. The patterns feel like a meditation on structure and form. Look at the way he plays with the loops and lines, connecting them in different ways. It's a reminder that art is a process of discovery and that sometimes the most interesting things happen when we let go of control and allow ourselves to explore. These patterns remind me of Hilma af Klint's diagrams, both sharing a fascination with the hidden structures that underpin reality. Like Hilma, Dijsselhof invites us to see the world in new ways.
