Here's a small photograph showing a silhouetted couple watching fireworks, made by an anonymous artist at an unknown date. The whole image is a study in contrasts, dark foreground and bright sky, like a visual poem about fleeting moments. The fireworks themselves are captured as trails of light, delicate and ephemeral, some bursting into tiny stars. Each streak tells a story of movement and energy, like quick brushstrokes on a canvas. They remind me of Cy Twombly’s scribbled lines, full of life and chance. And below, the dark shapes of the couple, almost swallowed by the night, creates a beautiful tension between presence and absence, inviting us to imagine their experience of wonder, or is it nostalgia?
