Elaine de Kooning made this artwork, Taurus VII, with ink on paper. It's a wild dance of black marks on a white ground. I can only imagine her wrestling with the image. I've been there, where the painting takes on a life of its own. You can feel the artist's hand in these sweeping gestures, they almost seem to leap off the page. It’s like she's trying to capture the raw energy of a bull. The ink splatters add to the feeling of spontaneity, as if the image were captured in a fleeting moment. De Kooning was always looking at the world around her. There's a connection to other artists who were exploring similar ideas about form and movement. Like a conversation across time. Ultimately, the artwork reminds us that painting is a way of thinking, feeling, and engaging with the world – an ongoing experiment with endless possibilities.
