Constantin Flondor made this painting, Energies (Study), with what looks like oil stick or pastel, and maybe some paint. It's all about the energy of the marks, the way they vibrate together on the surface. The colors are pastel-like, powdery, and chalky, in pinks, greens, and browns. Looking closely, you can see how the lines are drawn and redrawn, built up and layered to create a kind of vibrating energy. Take the pink form in the upper left – it's not just one line, but many, weaving and looping around each other. This reminds me of Cy Twombly, who also made marks that felt both ancient and brand new. Ultimately, this piece emphasizes that art is an ongoing conversation across time and styles, with multiple voices, rather than a single, authoritative statement.
