Here's a bold black and white image by Cameron Platter, teeming with figures, words, and symbols. It feels like it was carved, maybe from a big block of linoleum, with all these sharp contrasts and textures emerging from the cut marks. I'm imagining Platter, almost like a printmaker, wrestling with the material, pushing and pulling to reveal these scenes. There's a tension here, a dance between control and accident. Words like "Dirty Den" and "Club Dirty Ben" suggest a kind of gritty, urban underworld, and then there are these figures, perhaps warriors, holding spears. How do these realms collide? What's he trying to tell us? It feels like a fever dream, a mash-up of different worlds and eras. It reminds me of other image makers like Peter Doig or even some of the early German Expressionists, artists unafraid to delve into the darker sides of human experience. Ultimately, Platter invites us into this messy, ambiguous space where meaning is never fixed.
