Christo created "Package" in 1965 using fabric, twine, and wood. During the early 1960s, Christo began to wrap everyday objects. Coming of age in Soviet Bloc Bulgaria, Christo, born Christo Javacheff, personally experienced restricted freedoms. His wrappings might be seen to echo this experience. What do we hide, and what do we reveal? This sculpture prompts a dialogue between concealment and exposure. Christo challenges us to reflect on how cultural and political environments shape our perception. The beige fabric and roughly tied twine, mounted on painted wood, evoke a sense of mystery. It raises questions about the value and meaning we ascribe to objects when they are shielded from view. Christo once said, "The act of wrapping is a way of transforming an object." Consider how Christo's artwork transforms the mundane into something evocative, hinting at the complex layers beneath the surface.
