Monique Orsini made this untitled piece using oil paint, and we immediately notice the swirling application of the pigment. Looking closely, the texture of the brushstrokes is evident, adding depth and movement to the composition. The way the paint is applied, almost like butter being spread, speaks to the physicality of the artistic process. Orsini's choice of oil paint is itself significant; it's a traditional medium that allows for blending and layering, enabling her to create subtle gradations of color and form. Although abstract, the colors create contrasts, and the artist has played with the opacity and translucency of the medium to give depth to the painting. Ultimately, understanding Orsini's work requires acknowledging the integral connection between the artist's hand, the materials used, and the resulting visual experience. It challenges us to appreciate the skill involved in manipulating such simple materials into a captivating work of art.
