This is a viola, crafted by Johannes Cuypers in the 18th century. Its most striking features are the elegant curves and f-holes carved into its wooden body. The curves, more than mere decoration, echo the human form, reminding us of the Renaissance ideal of harmony between mankind and nature. These curves, so similar to that of the female body, go as far back as ancient Greek sculptures. The f-holes, shaped like a stylized "f", are not just acoustic necessities but also possess a visual symbolism. They remind us of the eye motif, an ancient sign of consciousness and awareness. The viola, a vessel of sound, becomes a symbol of human expression. As a keeper of cultural memory, this instrument connects us to past generations.
