Camilla d'Errico made this painting of a regent, a storm, and a strike with what looks like acrylic paint. The colors are mostly in the purple range, and there's this incredible attention to detail that makes you think about how long it took to build up all those layers. The physical surface is so smooth, almost like it's been polished. You can see tiny little brushstrokes, especially in the background. The paint is applied thinly, which gives it this dreamy, ethereal quality. I’m drawn to the girl's hair where the dark purples blend into lighter violets – it's like d'Errico is playing with light itself. It reminds me a bit of Mark Ryden's work, where there's this mix of sweetness and something a little darker lurking beneath. Art is always a conversation, and d'Errico seems to be speaking fluently. In the end, it’s not about figuring out exactly what it means, but feeling the electricity.
