This is Florence Truelson's "Quilt Block - 'E. Cooper' Design". I love the idea of a quilt block, the potential of it; a module within a larger, more useful matrix. It’s like a painting, but it’s also got this cozy, practical thing going on. And there is something so intimate about quilting, isn't there? I think of the artist hunched over this, choosing her fabrics, making decisions, and just stitching away. The central green medallion surrounded by the blue ribbon is intriguing. I wonder what E. Cooper was thinking when they designed it. Is it a pattern that has been passed down? A color combination that reflects Cooper's personality? It makes you realize that artists, or in this case, quilters, build on each other’s work over time, adding their own spin.
