This photograph shows the 'Spoorbug over de Ci Somang in aanbouw', but we don't know when it was made, or by whom. Here is a black and white image that captures the labor and engineering in the making of a bridge. I think of the workers, perched high above a dense landscape, figuring out how to connect one place to another. How daunting it must have been! The artist must have been thinking about how humans interact with nature, or maybe just wanting to capture the sheer scale of the project. The photograph's tones make me think about earlier photography, and the way capturing the world in a lens, was new. There is a realness here in this image. A moment of embodied expression where labor and ambition meet. It embraces uncertainty, opening up space for multiple interpretations and meaning.
