This untitled painting was made by Lee Krasner in 1969, using ink and paper. Look at the way she’s gone at it – a mix of control and chance. It’s like she’s letting the ink do its own thing, while also guiding it, you know? The paper's got this creamy, raw feel, and then BAM, these splatters and drips of magenta and brown ink, like a party on the surface. Some marks are fat and juicy, others are thin and delicate. Check out the top left corner, that cluster of marks, how some of them seem to bleed into one another, and the paper. It’s like she's creating a whole world in that one spot. It reminds me a bit of Joan Mitchell's work, that same energy and freedom. But Krasner has her own voice, her own way of making chaos feel, well, kind of beautiful and right. It’s a reminder that art doesn’t always need to be neat and tidy.
