Otto Muehl made this black and white photograph, "Cosinus Alpha 7", and it really captures art-making as a process. Look at the dust cloud in the center, the sense of a performance, and the layers of texture built up on the bodies on the floor. The dust or powder is a key element. It obscures and reveals, creating a palpable sense of atmosphere. It is hard to tell what's going on. This reminds me of artists like Yves Klein, with a fascination for material presence and performative creation. There's a kind of violence, but also something strangely beautiful in the way that the powder clings to skin and contours. Art isn't about answers, it's about questions. Muehl's work definitely provokes a lot of them. It's a good reminder that ambiguity can be a powerful tool, challenging us to look beyond the surface and engage with the complexities underneath.
