A Sower of the Field on a Sunny Spring Day at Brendekilde Church 1914

"A Sower of the Field on a Sunny Spring Day at Brendekilde Church," has been captured by Hans Andersen Brendekilde with subtle tones and a sensitive brush. I can only imagine Brendekilde on a spring day, watching a sower, and then imagining the painting, and then trying to *make* the painting. You know, mixing the paint, and trying to match what he saw, failing, trying again. Look at the muted blues and browns. The church and houses in the background are made with delicate strokes. The sower’s shadow feels so real it’s like you could almost touch it. Think of the artist, outside, looking and thinking. It reminds me of van Gogh, but much calmer, like a memory. It suggests a slower pace, a deep connection to the land, to the rhythm of seasons, to what comes next. Like the sower in the field, Brendekilde planted his seeds with this painting, to be considered and enjoyed across time.
