Vojtech Cinybulk made this print, ‘Ritual Dance’, with graphic marks that evoke a sense of energy and movement. The palette is simple: the image is black and white with a single pop of deep burgundy. I imagine Cinybulk cutting into the linoleum, each gouge a deliberate act, a carving out of light from darkness. He was probably thinking about how marks create their own rhythm. There’s a dynamism in the bold lines and geometric patterns, like a visual score for a silent performance. Look at the way the black slashes radiate outward, suggesting the dancer is caught mid-spin, a blur of motion frozen in time. The geometric shapes adorning the dancer's costume echo tribal designs, but they could also be read as modern symbols, a bridge between ancient traditions and contemporary expression. It reminds me a bit of Miro, actually, especially in the way the image balances abstraction with recognizable forms. It makes you think about how artists borrow, steal, and transform ideas across generations. Each artwork a continuation of an ongoing visual conversation.
