M.C. Escher made this piece, Metamorphosis II excerpt 6, using ink and graphite. What's cool is how he takes something static, like a town, and turns it into something else, like a chessboard. For me, that's what art is all about – seeing things in a new way! Escher's use of line is just amazing. Look at how he creates depth and texture with simple hatching! The way the lines get closer together to create shadows, like under those chess pieces. It's not just about the images, though; it's about how Escher makes them change. A building becomes a rook. Amazing! Escher reminds me a bit of Josef Albers, who explored the perception of color. Both artists play with how we see and understand form. It’s about embracing ambiguity, a kind of visual riddle, but one that makes you think.
