This is a sketchbook with 69 pages by Abraham de Haen the Younger, created sometime between 1707 and 1748. The blank pages of a sketchbook invite us to consider not just the artist, but also ourselves, as potential creators and storytellers. Sketchbooks were often tools of exploration, discovery, and documentation. As we look at the cover of this sketchbook, we might wonder: What stories were meant to be told on these pages? What historical events or personal experiences might have influenced the artist's work? Sketchbooks can also serve as intimate records of daily life, capturing fleeting moments and observations that might otherwise be lost to history. Though the pages are currently blank, they are brimming with potential, waiting to be filled with images, ideas, and emotions. This invites us to reflect on our own relationship to creativity and self-expression.
