This beautiful glass paperweight was created by the Clichy Glasshouse sometime between 1837 and 1885. Its spherical form is immediately striking, a perfect globe that invites contemplation. Bands of black, white, teal, and a deep violet swirl from its center, creating a mesmerizing vortex. These lines aren't merely decorative. They function as structural elements, drawing our eyes inward, toward the glass flower at the very center. The cool palette evokes a sense of calm, but the dynamism of the spiral generates movement and energy. This creates a fascinating tension: a static object that feels alive. The seemingly simple design reflects the complex interplay between form and function. It is a play on perspective, scale, and movement. And though small, this paperweight challenges our perceptions of space and depth, prompting a deeper consideration of the world around us.
