Curatorial notes

Curator: Hi, welcome. I'm excited to discuss this intriguing piece with you. Editor: Thanks! This is "Art Theory Text with Sketch" by Stuart Davis. It looks like pen on paper. It feels like we're seeing a glimpse into the artist's raw thought process. What do you make of the combination of text and image? Curator: It's a beautiful collision, isn't it? Davis was always trying to fuse language and vision. The sketch seems almost like a Cubist still life rendered in linguistic terms, then tethered to theory. Editor: Do you think he achieved that fusion? Curator: I think he's showing us the seams, rather than hiding them. And maybe that’s the point, to see how thoughts become things, or try to. Editor: It's definitely given me a new perspective. Thanks! Curator: And me as well.
