Editor: So this is Eric Gill's "Sundial," currently residing at the Tate. It's, well, a sundial! There's something melancholic about it, a darkness in the stone. What stands out to you about this piece? Curator: The inscription, first. “Think of this day, make not for tomorrow.” A rather urgent sentiment, isn’t it? Gill was deeply spiritual, and I think this piece is a constant reminder to embrace the present moment. It's a beautiful sentiment, if you ask me. Editor: That's interesting, it does add a layer of depth to what seems like a simple object. Curator: Exactly! It's about more than just telling time. It's a meditation on mortality, a memento mori cast in stone. Editor: I hadn't thought about it that way. Thanks, that's given me a lot to think about. Curator: It's my pleasure. Art is simply the best.
