Frederick Carl Frieseke created this artwork ‘Nude’ using what appears to be watercolour and pencil. There's a sort of hazy, dreamy quality to this painting. I can imagine him, Frieseke, sitting in a garden, maybe, trying to capture the way the light filters through the leaves. I mean, look at how the figure almost dissolves into the background. The dappled light and the soft palette create a sense of intimacy. I’m thinking, was he trying to capture a fleeting moment? Or, was he exploring the boundaries between the figure and its surroundings? He was an American Impressionist, so he must have been looking at Monet, who was obsessed with light. Maybe Frieseke was thinking about how light could transform a subject. It's a conversation, you know? Artists talking to each other across time. Frieseke's ‘Nude’ invites us to slow down, to see the world in a different light, and maybe, just maybe, to find beauty in the unexpected.
