This yellow sculpture, Carabela, was made by Edgar Negret. It’s hard to put a date on it, but whenever it was, Negret was in the zone. The sculpture is assembled and painted metal, industrial but also, well, buoyant! It reminds me of those moments in the studio when something clicks, when disparate elements suddenly align. Look at how the yellow paint clings to the metal, not quite concealing the seams, almost like a second skin. Notice the way the vertical forms twist and turn. That cadmium yellow is pure joy, a reminder that art can be both serious and playful. It's a conversation with folks like Calder and maybe even Miro – a shared language of form and color that transcends time. It's about keeping the dialogue going, embracing the push and pull, the constant questioning. And that's what makes art so endlessly fascinating, right?
