Ellinnot’s etching of a nude woman in sunlight, well, it’s a whole mood, isn't it? I think I’ve been there. There's a kind of shimmering, all these little marks suggesting light, dappling her skin and the space around her. Making an image is such a tender thing, you know? I mean, etching is slow, so I imagine the artist coaxing this image into being, bit by bit. It’s a quiet dance between intention and accident, right? Looking at this, I feel like Ellinnot was after something more than just likeness. The way the light almost dissolves the form, it's like they’re trying to capture a feeling, or a memory. Her arms are raised, is she stretching, or reaching? I feel this sense of reaching for something just out of grasp… It reminds me that we’re all just trying to leave some kind of mark, a little trace of ourselves, in a world that keeps moving. That’s what art does, it freezes a moment, makes it stay.
