Editor: Lovis Corinth's "Two men and a barking dog in a moon- and starlit landscape" is an intriguing print. The scratchy lines give it a raw, almost frenetic energy. What strikes you about this piece? Curator: I'm interested in how Corinth, through the etching process, has created a landscape consumed by labor. Look at the stark contrast – the apparent leisure of figures juxtaposed with the visible effort of the artist's hand, the marks of the plate's creation. Does this elevate or challenge our perception of both labor and leisure? Editor: That's a perspective I hadn't considered. Thinking about the process and the effort needed to create it, changes how I view the work. Curator: Exactly. It forces us to confront the materiality of art itself and consider the implications of its production. These rough lines and stark contrasts are Corinth's way of exposing the very sinews of artistic creation.
