This photograph by the Séeberger brothers depicts two women, probably in France. It’s sepia-toned, a little world all its own. I like to imagine the photographer carefully framing the shot, trying to capture not just the image, but also a feeling, an impression, or a moment in time. The women are adorned in these incredible outfits, all lace and stripes. The lace looks so delicate and detailed, like the hand of someone’s grandmother made it with love. The woman on the left has a hand resting on a closed umbrella and a huge feather in her hat. She appears to be looking at her friend, maybe they are discussing the other people around them? The whole scene has a sense of anticipation. Photography is a funny thing, isn’t it? It’s like a conversation between the artist and the world. The Séeberger brothers were clearly having a lively chat with their surroundings! It's an ongoing dialogue, where each artist builds upon the ideas and techniques of those who came before.
