Florence Huston's "Wall Fixture" presents a simple yet evocative image of light and domesticity rendered in ink. The candelabra, crowned with candles, is a potent symbol, its flame representing not just illumination but knowledge and the divine spirit. The image echoes motifs found in classical antiquity, where torch-bearing figures symbolized enlightenment. But look closer, and we also see a symbol of transience: the melting candle reminds us of mortality. This potent image returns in the medieval "memento mori," reminding us of the ephemeral nature of life. The emotional power of the candelabra lies in its ability to evoke a sense of warmth and security while subtly reminding us of life's fleeting nature. This image is a powerful emblem that engages our subconscious on a profound level. Its symbolic language has been passed down through history and continues to evolve and take on new meanings.
