Andy Warhol made this *Diamond Dust Shoe* and you know, it is hard to pin it to a particular year. The image has a kind of glamour, and also a real flatness. The black background is totally matte, throwing that high heel into sharp relief. But what's super interesting is the texture of the shoe itself - how the 'diamond dust' catches the light and gives the surface a kind of shimmering depth. Up close, you can see how the screen printing process creates these almost pixelated edges around the form, a kind of glitch in the reproduction that emphasizes its status as an image. It reminds me of some of Tom Wesselmann’s Pop paintings, in that both artists share a fascination with everyday objects. Warhol's shoe elevates the mundane to the iconic, but also leaves room for interpretation. It's like he's saying, "Here's a shoe, but what does it mean to *you*?"
