Here's Almir Mavignier's study in 'Reflexo sobre Amarelo-limão,' reflecting on lemon yellow. I can imagine the artist starting with a vibrant, juicy yellow, and then methodically building up these tiny, almost pixelated dots. It's as if he’s trying to find the underlying structure of color itself. I sympathize with the artist here, as he probably started with an intuition and then rigorously pursued it, dot by dot. There's something meditative about this kind of repetitive mark-making. It reminds me a bit of Agnes Martin’s grids but with a warmer, sunnier disposition. Each dot is intentional and carefully placed, and together they create an optical field that vibrates and shimmers. You can almost feel the heat radiating from the canvas. It shows us how artists are in conversation across time, inspiring one another’s creativity. Painting is an embodied expression and an ongoing conversation.
