Pavlo Makov made "A", a 50 x 50 cm work with dark paint and simple forms. It's like a blueprint for a building, or maybe a letter... but also, two houses joined together, with dark doors at the bottom and a dark window in the middle. I’m thinking about the process. How he decided to reduce a place to its simplest shape, and what it must have felt like for him to draw these clear, bold lines. He would have been thinking about how shapes, colors and lines can evoke the feeling of being home. This piece reminds me of other artists who played with architecture and geometry, like some of the Bauhaus folks, or maybe even some of the early Minimalists. Artists, you know, always riffing off each other.
