This roll of cream silk satin ribbon was created by Gustav Schnitzler. It's interesting to consider the life of an object like this, and its journey through time. What was it like to handle that ribbon? I imagine its cool, smooth texture, its soft sheen catching the light. And, what about the act of winding, wrapping, and shaping with that ribbon? Maybe it was for bridal wear, or perhaps it was trimming a hat? It’s fun to imagine the hands that touched it, the purposes it served, and the stories it could tell. Think about the materiality of this object. Silk implies luxury and craftsmanship, and it evokes a sense of delicacy. The cardboard roll itself, though humble, is essential to the ribbon’s form and function. And what about the imperfections? The slightly torn edges and the subtle discolorations hint at the passage of time and the touch of human hands. Objects like this ribbon remind us that art and beauty can be found in the most unexpected places. They also show us that everything is connected, and that even the simplest things can have deep meaning and resonance.
