Charlotte Posenenske made this blue Fold out of metal, and I’m really drawn to how it balances simplicity with a kind of dynamic tension. The surface is so smooth and reflective, almost like a mirror, but the folds introduce this geometry that complicates the flatness. I love the way the light plays across the different planes, creating subtle shifts in color and shadow. It's almost like she's working with a minimalist vocabulary to create something that feels really alive and in motion. Look at the top left facet in particular, and how the light gently recedes, suggesting a subtle feeling of depth. Posenenske quit artmaking to become a sociologist because she thought art was useless. But, I think this piece asks some really interesting questions, and reminds me of work by people like Sol LeWitt and Donald Judd who were exploring similar ideas around seriality, modularity and industrial materials. It’s all part of this bigger conversation about how we can make art that engages with the world around us.
