Kateryna Bilokur made this painting, "Early Spring," with oil on canvas, and the way she worked with it is like a quiet dance. She lets the paint act as a transparent veil, almost a watercolour, delicately layering washes of blues, greens, and browns. Up close, you can see the almost obsessive detail in the brushstrokes, especially in the thicket of branches and grasses at the base of the trees. Each stroke feels like a tiny, tender observation. She captures the thinness of the branches, the wetness of the earth, the cool light of the sky. It's as if she’s trying to catch the very moment when winter gives way to spring, a fleeting, almost invisible change. Bilokur reminds me of Hilma af Klint, another artist with an almost spiritual connection to the natural world. Both artists invite us to look closer, to see the magic in the mundane, and to appreciate the way art can embrace ambiguity and multiple interpretations.
