Aldo Mondino made 'Bela Balans' with collage elements to create a dynamic composition. Mondino is playing with balance, both in terms of the subject and the way he creates space. The colors are super saturated, those greens, purples and reds, creating a playful and almost childlike atmosphere, while the composition itself it’s quite rigorous. Look at how each of those paper strips is angled! There’s a real sense of movement as if the shapes are sliding against each other. And then, that blob of red paint at the bottom. What’s that about? Maybe it’s an interruption or a counterweight to all that carefully arranged geometry? Mondino’s approach reminds me of Sophie Taeuber-Arp, who brought abstraction into everyday life with a similar sense of play. Ultimately, Mondino shows us that art is not just about what we see but how we see, how we balance the serious with the playful, the planned with the unexpected.
