Editor: This intriguing print by Joe Tilson from 1976 presents three distinct panels, each suggestive of ancient landscapes and figures. There's something about the textures that makes me think of old maps or archaeological digs. What connections do you see between these images? Curator: It's like a poetic meditation on place and memory. Tilson's playing with the idea of monumental land art, like the Cerne Abbas Giant, but in a deeply personal way. The "Tump," perhaps a burial mound, feels like a whispered secret. Does it spark a sense of curiosity about what lies beneath? Editor: Absolutely! It's like he's inviting us to become amateur archaeologists, piecing together fragments of a lost history. Curator: Exactly. And that "Giant" panel with the X? It's both a marker and a mystery. Perhaps it's Tilson saying, "Here lies something important, but its meaning is now obscured." It’s a beautiful, melancholic puzzle, isn't it? Editor: It really is. I'll definitely be looking at Tilson's work with fresh eyes now.
