René Bosiers made this etching, “Huis,” and it’s all about the dance of dark and light. Looking at the marks, you can almost feel the scratching of the tool, the way it bites into the plate. There’s this real directness, a lack of fussiness, like Bosiers is figuring it out as he goes. It's like he's improvising with lines. I’m drawn to the way he renders the shadows under the window and door. Those dark, scribbled lines create such depth and mystery, it makes you wonder what stories that little house could tell. It reminds me of the work of James Ensor, that same interest in the everyday but with this undercurrent of something strange or surreal. Art is never really about answers. It’s about asking questions, embracing uncertainty, and finding beauty in the unexpected.
