Salomé 2020

Luis Álvarez Roure made this painting of Salomé at some point, using oil on canvas. The artist seems interested in the tradition of figurative painting, you know, with the whole 'art history' thing going on. But here, the material qualities are just as important as the subject. Notice how the paint is applied in layers, creating a sense of depth and texture. Look at the background, the way the gold paint drips and pools, creating this kind of shimmering effect. It's almost like the painting is alive, constantly changing and evolving. And then there’s the figure itself. It’s interesting to observe the brushstrokes and how the figure emerges from the ground. I am curious about the way the artist uses light and shadow to create a sense of form and volume. It's a real balancing act between representation and abstraction, and I think Roure pulls it off beautifully. Like a modern-day Titian!
