Editor: This small, square photograph by Jack Gould, simply titled "Untitled (man sweeping trash on street)," has this strangely haunting quality given its inverted tones. What do you make of such a mundane scene, elevated, perhaps, through its shadowy rendering? Curator: Shadowy indeed! It feels like a half-remembered dream. I wonder if Gould meant to spotlight the unseen labor that keeps our world turning. Have you ever considered how much beauty hides in plain sight, waiting for us to notice? Perhaps he wants us to feel the weight of the broom, the fatigue in the sweeper’s stance, and the silent dignity of thankless work. Editor: That’s beautiful. I hadn’t thought of it that way – it does make me appreciate the everyday a bit more. Curator: Right? Art's funny that way. It shows us things we already knew, but somehow makes them feel brand new again.
