Almir Mavignier created this dot matrix, Punktstruktur, out of dark and light-brown, and black ink. It’s hard to say when. Looking at all these dots, I can imagine Almir in his studio, carefully placing each one. It feels like a meditative act, a dance between precision and variation. I wonder if he was thinking about Op Art or Constructivism when he made this. Maybe he was trying to create a sense of depth or movement? I’m struck by the way the dark brown slowly shifts into a black, almost like an optical illusion, and how it suggests a subtle movement and change. This piece reminds me of the work of Bridget Riley, but with a more subdued, almost industrial feel. It is so impressive how a seemingly simple gesture can create such a rich and complex experience, and how artists are constantly building on each other's ideas, creating a visual conversation across time.
