Beatriz González made Asesinada Mujer En Hospedaje Positivo, and well, what a title... Here we see bright colours printed on what looks like a woven cloth - but those colours aren't just pretty, they’re emotionally charged, you know? I like the way González uses a limited palette to create such a vibrant scene, making the process so visible, she makes the everyday feel monumental. The flat application of color emphasizes the surface, reminding us that this is, first and foremost, a textile object. Look at the yellow of the figure against the ground of tiny red and yellow flowers. It's a bold choice, and the contrast is striking. I’m reminded a bit of Matisse, someone who also understood how to turn simple shapes into something powerful. Like him, González is unafraid to let ambiguity and emotion guide her work.
