Maria Bozoky's 'Southern Fisherman Houses' is, I think, a crayon drawing on paper. The marks are so immediate, aren't they? Like a quick sketch, capturing the scene with bold strokes of color. It's like she’s right there, letting the moment flow onto the page. Look at how the colors bleed into each other, the blues of the sky mixing with the reds of the roofs. It’s this messy, vibrant energy that really grabs you. I love the little black cat prowling across the bottom, so nonchalant. It's a small detail but it makes the whole scene feel alive. This piece reminds me a bit of Raoul Dufy, who was also brilliant at capturing the feeling of a place with just a few lines and washes of color. Art isn't about perfection, it's about feeling and Bozoky really gets that.
