Fernand Leduc made this Triptyque with ocre, violet, and rouge, and it's all about how colors talk to each other. The way Leduc has laid down these colors, so flat and solid, it’s like he’s thinking about them as shapes, not just hues. Check out the surface, it’s smooth, no brushstrokes, almost like a print. This makes the color even more intense. And look at the shapes, kinda biomorphic, floating there in their respective grounds. It’s like they're having a conversation, a dance. The way the ocre and violet play off each other, it's a little jarring, a little off, and that’s what makes it interesting. It reminds me a bit of Matisse, the way he could make colors vibrate next to each other. But Leduc's got his own thing going on here, a Canadian vibe, maybe? It’s all about how we see, how we feel, and how colors can mess with our heads in the best way.
