Sven Lukin's 'Green Thursday' is a construction of painted forms, a deeply blue ground interrupted by an orange zigzag and a hovering blue square. I imagine Sven playing with these shapes, cutting, arranging, and painting them, trying to get a balance that sings. Doesn't it remind you of some other artists, maybe Ellsworth Kelly, or even Frank Stella? Look at the material quality of the surface. See how these colours sit next to one another? The texture seems smooth, allowing the shapes and lines to really pop. What about that orange line? It reminds me of a meandering path on a map, directing my gaze and animating the painting. We can see echoes of history in the conversations between artists as each of them tries to solve visual problems and explore new possibilities. It’s like they’re all in this ongoing, timeless discussion, inspiring each other across the decades. Painting is a form of expression, inviting ambiguity. There are no limits to its interpretations.
