This is one of Nicholas Krushenick’s untitled paintings, and it’s a total trip of shapes and colors. The guy was into this idea of art as something flat, immediate, and in your face, and you can totally see it. The way he lays down these colors, they're so unapologetic. Bright reds, yellows, blues, all jammed together with thick black outlines. There's a kind of playfulness, but also a real sense of control. Like, he knows exactly what he's doing with each stripe and wiggle. Look at how the white swooshes on the left play against the stripes of red and yellow, feels almost architectural. It reminds me a bit of Peter Saul, but less…primal. Krushenick’s got this clean, almost graphic feel that's all his own. It's like he's saying, "Hey, art doesn't have to be serious. It can just be a good time."
