Earl Stetson Crawford made this etching called "Baousset," and what strikes me is the intimacy of it, the way it seems to invite you into a quiet, contemplative space. I imagine Crawford, maybe sitting on a hillside, carefully observing the play of light and shadow as he etches. I wonder what it felt like to render those delicate lines, capturing the essence of each leaf and branch. Notice how the tree frames the landscape, drawing the eye towards the distant town. It reminds me of those classic landscape painters like Corot, who sought to capture the fleeting beauty of the natural world. There's a certain humility in this approach, a willingness to be led by the subject. It's about being present and attentive, allowing the image to emerge through the act of looking and recording. And in that process, something magical happens – the artist’s conversation with a landscape becomes a conversation with us.
