Yolande Delasser made this drawing of a jar, but we don't know when. The jar sits squat in the center, with these lovely blue floral decorations, almost like a print, on the front. You can see the artist using watercolor to render the shadows and light on the jar. I imagine her, sitting, carefully studying the form, trying to capture the subtle shifts in tone. It’s like she’s having a conversation with the jar. What I love about a painting like this is how it takes something so everyday and asks us to really *see* it. It makes me think about the tradition of still life, how artists through the ages have used humble objects to explore form, color, and light. It’s like she’s saying, “Look! Even this simple jar has a story to tell.” And isn’t that what art is all about?
