Anne Ger’s "Shaker Dressmaker's Counter" is rendered in watercolor, with a touch that's both precise and tender. The color palette is a warm hug of ochres and browns, making the simple counter feel incredibly present, almost breathing. Look at how each line seems carefully placed, almost as if the artist is building the object, piece by piece, right on the page. It's clear that for Ger, art-making is a slow, thoughtful practice. The layering of tones across the surface of the counter feels so natural. It's these little details, like the shadows on the drawers, that bring the whole piece to life. This drawing reminds me a bit of Agnes Martin's work. Both artists find beauty and meaning in simplicity, showing us how much can be communicated with just a few essential elements. This piece really gets at the heart of what art is all about – seeing the world in a new way.
